Cancer101.AI

An AI tool that makes cancer information accessible to the millions of people who need it most.

THE CHALLENGE

Less than 13% of American adults have the health literacy skills needed to understand and act on their own health information. On top of that, there are 2 million people diagnosed with cancer every year. That's 2 million people suddenly drowning in medical jargon, treatment options, and life-altering decisions.

THE WORK

Cancer101.AI was developed as a pro bono partnership with CANCER101, an advocacy organization dedicated to cancer education and support. Our goal: create a prototype that could demonstrate how AI could genuinely improve health literacy for the cancer community.

The result is a free, AI-powered tool that translates complex cancer information into language real people can understand—without sacrificing medical accuracy. Built for 23 cancer types and trained on verified medical sources, Cancer101.AI meets patients, caregivers, family members, and friends exactly where they are.

Learning that adapts to you

Everyone processes information differently. That's why we built four response styles—from Plain and Simple to Supportive and Reassuring—so users can choose how they want to receive answers. No matter the style, every response is medically accurate, sourced from verified content curated by advocacy organization CANCER101.

THE IMPACT

Cancer101.AI was developed as a pro bono partnership with CANCER101, an advocacy organization dedicated to cancer education and support. The tool served as an internal prototype designed to demonstrate how AI could genuinely improve health literacy for the cancer community.

In 2025, Cancer101.AI had a soft launch at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) conference, where patients, healthcare professionals, and colleagues got hands-on experience with the tool.

The response was overwhelmingly positive. People were genuinely excited about its potential to bridge the gap between complex medical information and patient understanding.

While Cancer101.AI hasn't had a full public launch, the prototype proved what's possible: that AI, when built with empathy and trained on verified sources, can be a powerful tool for helping people navigate one of the hardest moments of their lives.

MY ROLE

I led end-to-end content strategy and development—from instructional copy and promotional materials to prompt engineering and guardrail development in partnership with our technical team. My goal was to ensure the AI didn't just provide accurate information, but communicated it with the empathy and clarity that the cancer community deserves.
